I am running a Geforce3 Siluro and am very happy with it. _Except_ I cant run WWI at high resolutions. (I can run FB in "perfect" mode but not FS:WWI...( ? )

So, what would be a good card to upgrade to (the lower the price the better.. Wink

Guess you are talking about an AGP graphic board.
I got a geforcefx5900 dec 04 and it was the best i could get for about 150 euros (140$ or so). dunno what it cost now.
You may check Toms Hardware site for specs and speed:

I have tried to solve this one many times. Here is my tactics:

Give yourself a budget.

Try to figure what this amount would get you from the 2 major GPU manufacturer ATI and NVIDIA at the suggested retail price. Idiealy you can begin to figure out the GPU selections and the minimum features you need to know to compare them.

Start the hunt in local shops and the internet and buy the best bargain you can by moving as high as you can in the lineups.

Hope this helps.

Cool

Enter you specs on Ebay and you might score a good deal, if you can stand the process.

Rends, you haven't been keeping up with exchange rates in the last coupla years: 150 euro is now about 200 US$.

Snick, while shopping, better keep in mind the hardware overhead involved with the new cards: some require a dedicated power supply cable direct to the card, and some are double wide, and might get in the way of another of your card slots.

PV, lol you are right about the current exchange. Sorry my fault i simple forget how week the $ is at the moment.

Snick when checking ebay donīt forget to check intenet dealers too. Sometimes you have to pay more on ebay+shipping than you would need if you get the same card from a dealer.

I know Rends... Actually I have dropped a fair amount of money on ebay over the years. I am always amazed when auctions take off and people end up paying more than retail. PLUS shipping! When they could ahave bought it at a local store for less, had it immediately, no shipping and, if necessary, have a place to take it back to..

I can run SDOE at 1024x768 in OpenGL32 on my laptop and it only has a GeForce 4 MX440 card with 64mb! Tho I do use the 512x512 texture option... I get around 30-120 fps depending on the plane and action around me.

Right now, your best bet is either a 9800 Pro card ($150-$250 U.S.) or a GeForce 6 6600GT card ($150 - $200 U.S.). www.Newegg.com is a great place to start looking!

Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb version, runs everything I throw at it, the only thing holding it back now is my sad old xp2000 cpu Sad This 9800 Pro will outperform Nvidia cards upto the FX5950 Ultra (but matches this card. Not only that, it's a darn sight cheaper than a 5950 Smile

If you can afford the 256mb version of the 9800 pro, so much the better, but the 128mb I have is great.

Check out this link for benchmark comparions of almost all modern cards:
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/vga-charts-03.html

Nvidia these days = too slow, too expensive.
