Seeing the dirigible taking shape reminded me of this BBC documentary. It is based around two guys filming the WW1 battlefields just after the end of the war from a blimp. It includes, amongst other things, the story of the Fray Bentos tank incident, which is a good tale.

It's split into 4 on youtube. For the more soft hearted amongst us, keep watching til the end of the 4th part Smile

Yeah, it enfolds some quite intense history. Passchendaele is a pretty horrendous story
in itself; knowing of it already gives the images there more of an impact.

Start at 7:50 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VcBt01oaTI
and roll through the subsequent 2 as they come up. And this is one hour out of
four months...

Yes that is a pretty good BBC production, I especially like the short flight the producer takes in the gunner's cockpit of the Bristol Fighter. Happy

I found this quote by the producer on a BBC webpage.

"the complete 78 minute film, 'En Dirigeable Sur Les Champs de Bataille,' is currently being digitised at
ECPAD (www.ecpad.fr) so that researchers can view it there. I don't think they have plans to release it
commercially."

ECPAD is "Etablissement de Communication et de Production Audiovisuelle de la Défense", a branch of
the french armed services.

That is a shame, it would really be good to see this old film in it's unedited length. But that both the French and Belgians have been dealing with old unexploded mines and caches of old gas shells form WWI, this isn't unexpected.

I wish they'd just show the whole film in the show.
