I'm trying to beat the Wiki's SDOE article into some semblance of usability… does anyone recall what the first "real" user-contributed par file was?

Well, there was Hippie's Tools to help expand/take apart tifs and par files. Before the first Plane Pack there were several aircraft made. The first aircraft made was the He 100 fighter I believe.

Do you recall about what time these came out? I seem to remember the key intros were:

Hippy's,
Parfile tools,
Openplane Studio

…in about that order

You mean here?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighter_Squadron:_The_Screamin%27_Demons_Over_Europe
The history page shows edits into March. Probably lots that could be added about the OPS support community.
You can make such additions anonymously, I've corrected grammar, spelling, and minor factual
errors or incoherencies on lots of Wiki pages.
