PostPosted: Sun Jul 18, 2004 9:32 pm    Post subject: Open Project: Rhineland revamp Reply with quote

The Rhineland revamp is uploaded now. It comes in a zip files contains some folders and a bunch of single files. You will need to copy them into the same folders you find in your Fighter Squadron/media directory.
You may ask why i donīt put it into a parfile. One reason is that a parfile gives the revamp a touched of a finished project or at least a beta or whatelse version. But it isnīt the case. Itīs a project wich needs lot of work.
So i decided not to pack it into a parfile.
This will make it easier for the guys who want to work at the files to pick them up.
If you want to mod anything mentioned in the list below feel free to work at it but please let me know what you are doing . This will prevent us doing the same work twice . If you are a beginner donīt worry. Some objects (buidlings or textures for example) are not complicated to do.

Following a project and a file list:
The first show what have been done and what not and the second shows the new files of the Rhineland revamp

Project table list and Status.

Just so everyoneone knows, I will be watching the bandwith usage so it doesnt shut down the site or cost us extra $ at the end of the month. Once we get to a certain point (and I will be the only one who decides - especially since bandwidth is not public information...) I will change the path until the next month starts effectively breaking the link. At the beginning of the next month I will change the path back.

HOWEVER

I will also post to that effect so you know why its not available (I doubt if this will happen afer the first month...).

IF someone wants to download something so they can work on it (and things are locked out), talk to Rends. Once he passes word to me, I'll either give you a link, or more likely let you access it using B-DoD.com (My own domain).

The idea is to not throttle the Revamp, but site up time is priority 1...

how about a limited on-line offer & then after time has expires, add it to SDOE WWII Addon CD with the other terrains. Infact you could start rotating downloads, (GM use to do this) on the free server. I think $1 should be added to the already cheap two dollar SDOE add-on CDs (option to donate at the very least) & that extra cash go to the SDOE public server fund.
I got a friend who I might talk to about making a cool frontend/installer for it,
kinda like the ww2fighters guys have.

just an idea...

The current Legacy CD that I mail out in the US is 538 MB, so there is still plenty of room.

Naw, lets keep it at $2 and I'll send in $1 for each one anyway. Got all my CDRs free after rebate, still have 300 or so. LOL It would be nice to have the fact that there are CDs available in a big banner at the top of the site or something ALWAYS easy to find.

Installer for the entire Legacy CD? As long as its flexible and items can be added in and removed(by the CD providers), such as when the new static pack replaces the existing one, or somebody figures out the Italian problem with the property files. I'm sure the Legacy CD is a bit overwhelming to a newbie(even with the moving files from openplane folder bit fixed), a front end should really help with that. I think 3dp's main concern with the Legacy CD(his baby) is that it can still be installed one piece at a time for fellows with small drives, otherwise it could just be one big @ss zip or exe file. I wouldn't mind supplying it in two formats, the piece at a time and the big @ss simple. Happy

Rends, how is that static pack coming? Wink What happened to Nat breaking out the airfoils for the property fix file? Wink

Hopefully you moved buildings _away_ from the airstrip? Wink

Take it at you own risk Wink I havnīt found time to test the zip file but i hope it works.
Get the project here:

http://site.openplanesim.com/project/rhinelandrevamp/rhineland_revamp%20_july_2004.zip
Itīs about 35 MB!

It should work if you extract the zip into your Fighter Squadron folder.
If not please report.

One thing i want to mention:
The revamp isnīt a wallmart store for any other projects. This means that you donīt have the right to use the files in any other projects than Rhineland revamp because i want to see this project finished anytime in the future.

If you want to work on it : Go on thatīs what the revamp need!

I also find out that the list i posted above isnīt uptodate. This will be fixed soon as possible.
[Edit:] File list updated on Juli20
