I noticed that the WWII medals are still used. I have some ideas for doing a WWI style set of medals. If it's not stepping on any toes, I could probably whip it up pretty quickly.

Cool. Smile

My first question is about flags. I'm seeing conflicting info on them.

Is this "navy" only, or is it useable for anything Imperial Germany?

Or, is this the only flag that would work for general Imperial German things?

Officially it would probably be flag 2. But flag 1 was always my favorite German Imperial flag, just looks awesome!

Ok, here's a quick update.

Any comments, suggestions, or critiques are welcome. Smile

I first started working on the cooler flag, but then changed gears for the other one.

I went with something very similar to what's already present, using a whiter color rather than the tan, and not hazing the entire thing out like the stock ones are.

I also tried it with a fade to black (cue Metallica...... Happy Razz )

The medal is not fully "optimized" for black as I was working mostly on the white. And there are still some areas that aren't up to my never satisfied standards even on the white one. But if I don't stop, I'll never be done and may even ruin it. lol

The font is Book Antiqua. Not really happy with any of the fonts though. But I do think something is needed there because it's so plane.

And just for kicks, here is an example of the original idea.

More news. Smile

I finished up the first draft on white fade. If you have any feedback, please, I'd like to hear it. Smile If not, then it's ready for the presses. Smile

Because at least one person liked the black, and because I couldn't decide which looked better, and one other BP picked black, I swapped out the color fade and resaved them just to have a comparison. They are not optimized for black - yet. They could easily be. So don't let the fact that they look a little dirty and rough put ya off. This just gives ya a basic idea of what they'd look like on the black fade.

White Fade

Black Fade

Thoughts, comments? Smile

Well, they BOTH look good! I have to say, I'm finding myself prefer the fade-to-black, myself. Great selection of medals!

Ok, now that I got some flying in and finished up the Brit and German 1916 campaign (and have no idea where to do next, lol), I can revist this with some of my other ideas.

Those were all the medals I was able to find, and find info on and good pics of. There are 7 there, but 9 German medals in the game already (from WWII). At least one of them I remember reading about higher levels of for second awards and such, but no pics.

Ideally, I'd like to get a few more to correspond to all the ones currently in, or even go beyond. Anyone have any ideas/info/sources?

The next issue is matching them to the currently medals. AKA - scoring.

The Pilots Badge seems to be the equivalent of pilots wings. Bavaria had their own too, but as Wilhelm was the King of Prussia and the Emporer of Germany, I thought it less of a reach to assume the pilots to be Prussian. The down side is that it cut the Military Order of Max-Joseph out as that is for Bavarians only.

At anyrate, the pilot should automatically begin with the Pilots Badge. The nearest way I can think to do that is to either award it for 0 kills or 0 missions, or even maybe 1 mission.

After that, I saw that nearly all aces had the Iron Cross 1st Class. Even the 5 kill aces. And they also all seemed to have the 2nd Class as well. So, I figured on 1st kill = 2nd Class, 5th kill = 1st Class.

Then the big question (to me) is the PLM. It's said to be Prussia's highest military award, but....there's a lot of aces that have it. Whereas, there's far fewer aces that have some of the other ones (all of the ohter ones above the crosses actually). Only 12 aces got the Order of St. Henry for example. There were about 170-some aces that got the PLM though. And it's the one people will be expecting to get. And there's no way of factoring in date people are flying (as it was easier to get earlier on), and training counts for the pilot and so on. So...... I decided to put it at #5.

#4, next in line after I.C. 1st C. in my list is The Order of the House of Hohenzollern. I figured since it's critera are "Awarded for acts of bravery in combat" and since 89 aces have it (a lot, but a little over half those with the PLM), I'd make it the "Ace of Aces" award. Ace * 5, or 25 kills.

Then #5 is the PLM, 50 kills. Make it difficult to get and try to strike a balance between everything I mentioned above.

#6 would be the Order of Albert. Only 18 aces recieved the one pictured. Only 1 recieved the higher class with swords, but I can't find a pic of that. Based on this, I put it above the PLM. TO really make one earn it, I figured 40 missions would be the criteria.

For #7, the remaining one is the Military Order of St. Henry. There were a lot of classes, but pilots were only eledgible for the lowest class. Only Max Immelman himself recieved the next one up. And only 12 aces recieved it at all. So for that, call it 100 kills

And like I said, I'm all out after that.

I do remember some time ago finding info on Orders of both the Red Eagle and Black Eagle, but I can't find it now. And one site I found with dozens of medals had no info on #s awarded or criteria, and nearly of them were for locals from the various kingdoms and cities only.
