I have a Dell Dimension 8200 P4, 2GHz, 512MB PC800 RDRAM, that supports AGP 4X. I want to replace the 64MB NVidia GeForce4 MX 420 video card that came with it. (I've been thinking of this for quite some time now. Posted here for advice back in August 2004. Never got to act on it.) Best buy has a BFG Tech GeForce 6200C (overclocked)(Model BFGR62256OC), 256MB, AGP 4X/8X on sale this week for $99 after rebate. I've done some searching around the net for APG 4X supported cards and haven't found anything better based on the tech specs. I'm no expert in this area so I would appreciate anyone's opinion on if this is a good card and deal.

I'd say got for it, the 6xxx series is a much better card the the previous 52xx series & should much stronger than your current card. Also check prices at newegg.com

they have great deals there too with fast shipping and great return policies.

I saw it too. Not too comfortable with some of the "Cons" in the reviews of it. Not a bad review for the BFG though, and it has a fan. For the price of the BFG, money is not an issue. I just have see if my power supply is big enough for it. (Can't say for sure, right now at work. Leaving now).

I'm using that exact card Klaus, had it for about 2 months now and have no
problems. As far as I can tell the speed is pretty good although I'm no expert
on vid cards either. All of my games run well. It was about $150 at best buy
when I got it.

Smokey,

Thanks for the review. Just to be sure, are you refering to the BFG Tech Model BFGR62256OC or eVGA Model 256-A8-N341-LX that Hip was pointing out?

It's definately a BFG Tech but I can't find the model number. I'll keep
looking and post back here if I find it.

i would definitely recommend a BFG OC card over just about any other...

i am on my second, and they are awesome. lifetime warranty, even if you overclock. their cards ARE oc'ed out of the box and will generally OC more. they often run specials to trade in your current bfg card for a new...

if you can get it, I'd reconmend the XFX GF6600GT AGP, I have the PCI-e 256mb version and it will overclocke to 620mhz core and 1.1 Ghz DDR3 out of the box, I'm sure the AGP would give you somthing similar, btw, if you get the 128mb version the ram will overclock much higher.

these are the ones you want, 300mhz core is a bit on the slow side, the GT's are 500mhz with loads of overclocking in them Wink

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?DEPA=0&type=&description=6600gt&Submit=ENE&Ntk=all&N=0&minPrice=&maxPrice=&Go.x=19&Go.y=30

I got this 1
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150099
runs at 620mhz core 1.02ghz ram, gonna drop an Artic Silencer 5 on it soon to help keep the temps down (these cards run hot, hotter than any CPU I ever had, and with overclocking very hot)

Oh, didn't check if these support AGP 4x though...

Sad just checked, they dont, so I've been given duff advice.. unless I also advise a new motherboard ofcourse LOL

I'm a bit surprised at how the 256MB nVidia 7800 series prices have been coming down a bit, considering that ATI hasn't been able to get their 1000-series cards out in volume. The new 512MB 7800GTX introduction could be part of the reason, but if I'm reading it correctly, it's being quoted at $750-800 US, so putting the 7800GT at $300US makes it look pretty good, as it is only a few months old, and prior to the 512MB GTX it was in the number two position behind the 256MB 7800GTX.

Thanks for all the inputs folks. I went and picked up the BFG Tech GeForce 6200C from Best Buy Thursday after work. Sale for $99 after rebate finished Saturday. Beside the positive replies I got about it, its about the best thing for my system without additional upgrades from my current AGP 4X support and 250W power supply. I installed it Sunday and though I haven't had a chance to give it a good wringing out it does look good.

Tanx again,
