After long last, the Somme terrain is the way it should be: With gentle rolling elevation changes and a fairly flat front lines area. No more airfields and towns pearched ontop of mountians and no more plateaus! I'm now working on getting everything back to the correct elevation in the SM file. The targets, airfields and towns are done.. Just need to work on the new structures like the battlefields and balloons.

Thanks guys!!

Jerry, Recon3.. How was the last batch of Somme files I sent you? Better on frame rate?

And Recon3, how's the repaint going on the designated areas?

After I realign all of the objects back on the terrain I'm going to start adding rows of houses and buildings along the roads.. As well as bombed out buildings along the front lines. I wanted to make the terrain more flat before I started doing that...

Smile

Frame-rate always seems to be very good on my rig. .....Where should I look in particular?

Cambrai and Marquion are basically done, but I've taken a break lately. I'll pick it up again in a few days.

btw, don't put the buildings on those straight brown (north-south east-west) roads. France never looked like that.

Gotcha! Smile

Try testing in aircraft patrol missions where they fly over the front. All of the flak and ambient sounds might slow it down a bit.

Where should I place the houses and such?

I was considering eliminating all those brown roads.

I guess the place to put the buildings would be in the towns (unless you had other ideas)... I just figured that you ought to have the tifs before you place the buildings correctly beside the roads. ...btw, I'll send the tifs over one by one as I finish them off.

Right, I'm not going to start adding buildings to the towns until I get the finished product. Smile I wonder why the roads were painted on...?

I'm still finishing what I started with the old terrain but I'm also working on this:

Surprised

Is this the same Somme mesh with a new texture applied? It looks VERY nice!!!! Happy I had aligned the battlefields along the trenches with the old texture and balloon bases were on the edge of the No Mans Land muddy cratered area. I don't think it will make a difference though.

Yes, same mesh.....This new no-man's land texture (and everything else) is in the exact position as the older one. (I was thinking of your battlefields) Wink

Actually, now that I've re-read your post I better say the trenches aren't exact

btw, I've only painted less than a third of the No-Man's land area with trenches. It wouldn't be hard to clone those trenches to match your battlefields.
